Sarcoma is a cancer that comes from transformed cells of mesenchymal disease (affected tissue). Connective tissue is a broad term that includes skeletal, cartilage, fat, vascular, or hematopoietic tumors, and sarcomas can occur in any of these types of tissues. Because of this, there are many subtypes of sarcoma, which are classified based on the specific tumor type and cell type from which the tumor originates. Sarcomas are the basic connective tissue, meaning they come from affected tissues. This is the opposite of the tumor (or "metastatic") of the affected tissue, which occurs when cancer from elsewhere in the body (such as the lungs, breast tissue or prostate) spreads to the affected tissue.
