Rice Milling

The basic objective of a rice milling system is to get rid of the husk and therefore the bran layers, and produce an edible, polished rice kernel that's sufficiently milled and freed from impurities. Milling may be a crucial step in post-production of rice. A rice milling system may be a simple one or two step process, or a multi stage process. During a one-step milling process, husk and bran removal are wiped out one pass and milled or polished rice is produced directly out of paddy. During a two-step process, removing husk and removing bran are done separately, and rice is produced as an intermediate product. In multistage milling, rice will undergo variety of various processing steps. Counting on whether the paddy is milled within the village for local consumption or for the marketing rice milling systems are often classified into the categories village rice mills and commercial mills.
