Piriformis Syndrome is a neuromuscular disorder. Piriformis is a muscle located in buttock region. The piriformis muscle irritates or compresses the sciatic nerve and causes pain, tingling and numbness in buttocks. It is treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and/or muscle relaxants. Treatment begins with stretching exercises, myofasial release, massage, strengthing of gluteus Maximus, gluteus medius, biceps femoris to reduce strain and avoidance of contributory activities like running, bicycling.
