Perioperative care is the medical care given to the patient before, during, and after surgery, directed at preparing the patient both physically and psychologically fit for the surgery and after surgery. Perioperative period consists of three phases of surgery: preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative; provided by surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nurse anaesthetists, surgical technologists, and nurse practitioners in hospitals, surgical centers, freestanding surgical centers or health care providers offices.
