Pain management (or algiatry) is the medical blueprint/approach/strategy for mitigating all types of chronic pain, including musculoskeletal, spinal and neuropathic pain disorders, thereby improving the quality of life of patients. Anesthesiologists are trained to help ease chronic pain through a range of interventional and minimally invasive procedures. The World Health Organization’s ‘Analgesic ladder’ follows an inexpensive and effective three-step approach relevant to pain management for all types of pain, including pain at end of life.
