Biography | ||
Marian Carey is a senior member of the Leicester Diabetes Centre, a leading European facility in applied health research in long-term conditions. As Director of the DESMOND Programme, a portfolio of group structured education interventions in Type 2 diabetes and other long term conditions, Marian has been associated with self management education since 2003, both in developing structured education for people with Type 2 diabetes and in managing large multi-site research projects in primary care. Marian is an experienced qualitative researcher with a doctorate in information science. Before coming into the field of diabetes, she worked in areas as diverse as dementia, stroke, traumatic brain injury, carers issues and post-natal depression, acquiring much experience in a variety of health and social care settings in the public and not-for-profit sectors. She currently has an active research portfolio as co-investigator on a number of major collaborative studies, and was most recently Deputy Theme Lead for Self Management and Education as part of NIHR LNR CLAHRC. Marian has also worked in the field of knowledge management and communications in the national media and in industry, and has a special remit for Communications in the Leicester Diabetes Centre |
