B. Glasmacher is a biomedical (process) engineer, cryobiologist and biomaterial specialist with international reputation. Her research focuses on the optimization of cell survival rates for various biomedical applications such as material and flow induced blood damage in blood pumps, calcification of biological heart valves (biomineralization) and cell/tissue banking. Here she has developed an in vitro calcification test system that mimics physiological conditions. She is leading one of the very few groups in the field of cryotechnology with special focus on cryopreservatio of cells and tissue engineered implants.
