Presently,he is working as Prof. & Head of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry at Faculty of Pharmacy. He has been bestowed with several honours, a few of them worth mentioning include, “Best Young Pharmacy Teacher Award 1997-98” conferred by “Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India”, “Life Time Achievement Award” by

United Writers’ Association, Chennai, “Gold Medal of Excellence” by the Open University of Complimentary Medicines, Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1998. In addition several best paper presentation awards at national and international conferences.He has received research grants to the tune of more than Rs. 3.90 crores from UGC/ICMR/AYUSH/AICTE/DRDO/DST/industries etc. He has successfully completed 10 major research projects and 05 are ongoing. He has successfully transferred technologies as outcome of funded project to industry. He is also consultant to many Pharmaceutical industries. He was instrumental to implement the scheme of FIST of Department of science & technology (DST) and special assistance programme (SAP) of UGC and the Department got a facelift with state of art facilities. He is supervising scientific research of the post graduation and the doctoral level. He has supervised 26 M. Pharm. Students and 25 Ph. D. scholars. He has written several textbooks and has contributed several chapters in books on Indigenous drugs and Herbal formulations of Indian and International Publisher
