Intraoperative fluoroscopic guidance has been extensively utilized in orthopedic surgery for post procedural confirmation, instrument position assessment, and surgical site identification. For instance, prior to any spine surgery, a preoperative level check is required. Furthermore, minimally invasive surgery has become the standard for many orthopedic procedures, including fracture, bone tumor, and spine surgeries, in an effort to lessen the risk of infection and lessen injury to the surrounding soft tissues. Surgeons cannot see or touch the surgery site directly since these procedures involve a tiny skin incision. However, the quantitative analysis of changes in the breadth of the articular space is limited by 2D image evaluation, which is only suitable for qualitative analyses of changes in the articular disc's location. Due of this, several researchers have used three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction to assess the morphological changes in the TMJ disc and condyle following surgery. These investigations, however, did not provide useful, thorough information regarding the three-dimensional connection between the condyle and TMJ disc.
Qualitative analyses
In trauma surgery, bone grafts are frequently used to treat non-union, infections associated to fractures, bone deformities, arthrodesis, and to give fractures structural support. The treating physician has access to a range of bone transplants, including autograft, allograft, and bone graft replacements. The integration of cutting-edge technologies like tissue engineering, 3D printing, and gene therapy into trauma surgery presents an exciting prospect for the field of bone grafting. Even so, there are still gaps in our knowledge of the current state of bone grafting procedures, with contradicting research on their indications and clinical efficacy. Therefore, the purpose of this review article is to step back and assess critically the current ideas surrounding bone grafting in trauma surgery, with a focus on examining the different types of bone grafts, the biology of graft incorporation, and the indications for their use in various clinical scenarios. Articular disc repositioning is a treatment for that mostly involves an arthroscopic or open disc repositioning technique. It reduces discomfort, increases TMJ mobility, and encourages the creation of new bone in the condyle. Earlier research have primarily used clinical signs and imaging evaluations to determine the surgical efficacy. As a result, a wider range of patients are now eligible for limb-sparing surgeries. However, in cases where critical bones or neurovascular structures are involved, limb-sparing surgery could not be a possibility, necessitating the consideration of amputation as a medical procedure. Tumor invasion into primary vascular or osseous tissues is a sign of a more advanced stage of epithelioid carcinoma in certain circumstances. Additionally, a prior study shows a worse survival probability for patients with localized soft tissue sarcoma undergoing amputation surgery. On the other hand, it is yet unclear how direct invasion of important anatomical sites, such as blood vessels and bones, affects the prognosis of individuals suffering with localized bone sarcoma.
