Abstract

Artificial Intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially by computer systems. AI is intelligence demonstrated by machines, as opposed to natural intelligence displayed by animals including humans. AI leverages computer systems and machines to mimic the problem-solving and decision-making capabilities of the human mind. The European institution describes it as a young discipline of sixty years, “which is a set of sciences, theories and techniques (including mathematical logic, statistics, probabilities, computational neurobiology, computer science) that aims to imitate the cognitive abilities of a human being.” The roots of modern Artificial Intelligence, or AI, can be traced back to the classical philosophers of Greece, and their efforts to model human thinking as a system of symbols. ... These events, at a conference such as this sponsored by Dartmouth College in 1956, helped to spark the concept of Artificial Intelligence and it all began from there.
THE BIG QUESTION:
Can a machine think like a human being? Or, on the other hand, is there such a thing as an artificial intelligence with its own identity?
