The history of dental publications has shown tremendous change during the last century. Over the last five decades in particular, the majority of dental journals were initiated to describe rapid developments in dental research, and they mirrored the tremendous innovations in modern dentistry through the diversity among dental journals and their published research. In line with these developments, dental education has made great leaps forward in all dental disciplines, including education methods, skills, and technology, all of which broadened and deepened the scope of various research specialties.

These factors predict a bright and promising future for modern dental research. In this spirit, we proudly announce the launch of the Journal of Dental and Craniofacial Research. The refereeing process at this journal solicits experts from various dental research specialties to ensure a high academic standard within the published articles, which then follows through a publication process that facilitates online manuscript submission, peer review, and an open-access online journal. The open-access model of our journal emphasizes freely accessible and highly-visible publications that make valuable scientific information available online, where it is more likely to be accessed by researchers, which also enhances and expands the possibility of citations. Additionally, the journal is offered in an electronic version, which expedites the publication process as compared to print versions.

Our obligation to the dental field is to ensure the publication of high quality papers, and as we fulfill this duty, all dental researchers are invited to submit scientific papers for publication consideration within our journal.
