In this study, activated carbon was produced from goat dropping with H2SO4 as activating agent. The produced activated carbon (GDAC) was characterized to determine its physico-chemical properties. Instrumental analysis such as FTIR, and XRF was also conducted on the produced activated carbon. Batch adsorption of malachite green (MG) using the produced activated carbon as adsorbent was also carried out in order to determine the effect of contact time, pH, initial concentration, and adsorbent dose on the adsorption efficiency of GDAC. The characterization revealed that GDAC has good quality. The adsorption of MG onto GDAC was dependent on contact time, pH, initial concentration, and adsorbent dose. The kinetic study shows that the pseudo-second order model fitted the adsorption data more than the pseudo-first order model. The Langmuir isotherm model fitted the data more than the Freundlich isotherm model, as gathered from their R2 values. Result obtained indicated that the sorption efficiency was up to 99%.
