Preparation and physico-chemical standardization of Viburnum punctatum Asava

The leaves,stem and the roots of V.punctatum were collected from Nilgiri hills, Tamil Nadu, India. A primary organic analysis conducted on the species revealed that the presence of bioactive molecules such as tannins, saponins, phenolic compounds (flavonoids) and other phenolic glycosides as their principal phyto-constituents. The crude drug (Patha) was formulated in to an asava using conventional anaerobic fermentation process for about 60 days.The formulation was standrdized by some 13 methods of physico-chemical analysis to obtain a cosistant and reproducible parameters.This study can help in re-evaluating the formulation as well as in conducting further investigation on it.
