Abstract

Organic and Inorganic Nano-Systems Used in Cancer Treatment

One of the main causes of death in the world is represented by cancer; it was reported over 8.2 million deaths worldwide. The most common methods to treat cancer refers to conventional anticancer drugs (chemotherapeutics) which display significant shortcomings such as damage of the immune system, low therapeutic indices and other organs or lack of solubility which limit their use in cancer treatment. To solve these limitations of conventional anticancer drugs, nanoparticles were rapidly developed. This study aims to provide an updated survey of the major progress in the flied of cancer therapy, including the limitation of conventional chemotherapy and the advantages or disadvantages of organic and inorganic nanoparticles. Also, this review focuses on the progress made in the field of nanoparticles for drug delivery in cancer therapy over the last years.
