Abstract

In-vitro testing of Centella asiatica leaf extract against fusarial wilt (Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici) of Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum)

The present study was carried out to evaluate in-vitro antifungal activity of leaf extract of Centella asiatica Linn., which is popularly used as folk medicine. The present work describes the antifungal activity of plant extracts on the growth of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici the tomato wilt pathogen. The tests in-vitro was carried out through paper disc diffusion assay by using acetone, ethanol, petroleum ether and water solvents. The length of the inhibition zone was measured in millimeters from the edge of the well to the edge of the inhibition zone. C. asiatica showed significant to moderate activity (from lowest 10.25 mm to highest 24.92 mm inhibition zones) against tested pathogen with 200 mg/ml DMSO plant extract concentration. The results of Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MICs) values are observed from 10 to 1000 mg/ml for C. asiatica. The extracts were assessed in an effort to validate the potential activity of the medicinal plants against microbes.
