Abstract

Evaluation of Herbal formulation for Osteoarthritis in Sprague Dawely Rats

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common types of arthritis. Osteoarthritis (OA) is also called as “degenerative joint disease” which usually affects the joints like knee, hip and spinal joints. Overall prevalence of OA is found to be 22% to 39% in India and it generally occurs after the age of 45 years in male as well as female. Associated risk factors like age, obesity, gender, joint injury and genetics increase the prevalence of OA. Osteoarthritis causespain functional limitation, impaired ability of daily living activities and deterioration. The drugs currently used for the treatment & management of arthritis provide only symptomaticrelief & do not cure the underlying causes. So, it is essential to find alternative, cost effective, safe and efficacious therapy.
