Abstract

Enhancement of plant growth of Trigonella foenum-graecum by Coinculation of fluorescent Pseudomonas and Rhizobium for the sustainability of agriculture

Seeds of Trigonella foenum-graecum were treated with plant growth promoting fluorescent c isolated from rhizosperic region of Trigonella foenum-graecum. Co-inoculation of the fluorescent pseudomonads and Rhizobium improved plant growth in terms of shoot height, root length and dry weight. Both the fluorescent Pseudomonads and Rhizobium were shown to exhibit a wide range of antifungal activity against pathogens specific to Methi. As compare to Pseudomonas strains and Rhizobium strain, Pseudomonas strains showed better result alone by enhancing fresh weight, dry weight and root length by 92.7%, 209.09% and 192 % respectively. Best results were obtained when co inoculated with Pseudomonas strains and Rhizobium strains. Plant growth promotion disease suppressive capacity was reported high for co inoculated treatment as well as enhanced dry weight of Trigonella by 218.18%. Pseudomonas strains and Rhizobium strains antagonised Fusarium (disease causing agent in Methi) with 60% and 50% efficiency in comparison to control. Our results suggest the potential use of these bacteria to induce plant growth and disease suppression in sustainable agriculture production of medicinal crops.
