The rapid change in biodiversity patterns, mediated by ever-increasing human pressures and global warming, necessitates a better understanding of the link between Biological Community Structure and Ecosystem Function. Recent research suggests that the functional organisation of communities is important. We discovered a linear and non-saturating effect of community functional structure on ecosystem multi-functionality, in contrast to research that focused on specific ecosystem functions and used species richness as the sole indicator of biodiversity. As a result, maintaining numerous ecological processes would necessitate a concentration on trait dominance and community specialisation.
