Abstract

Determination of bioactive components in Azadirachta indica flowers using GC-MS analysis

Neem flower, a medicinally important plant belongs to the family of Azadirachta indica. Traditionally, leaves, barks, roots and seeds are used in the treatment of inflammation and wound healing. In the present study, an analysis was conduct to find the possible bioactive components of the ethanolic extract of the Azadirachta indica flower using GC-MS study. The chemical compound of ethanolic extract of neem flower was investigated using GC-MS QP 2010 Plus, Shimadzu Corporation, Japan. In this analysis the neem flower extract revealed the existence of the GC-MS chromatogram of the thirty peaks presented. Eight chemical components were identified by GC-MS analysis. The major constituents are Caryophyllene(4.29%), n-Hexadecanoic acid(27.41%), 9,12,15-Octadecatrienoic acid, (Z,Z,Z) (3.74%), 9,12-Octadecadienoic acid (Z,Z) (3.58%),which are possessing many biological activities.
